Aug, 25, 2009, Ottawa – On Friday Aug. 28, the Canada Aviation Museum welcomes an amazing air show, the fourth annual Ottawa Classic Air Rallye. In the year of the centennial of flight in Canada, Flightworks, in collaboration with the Canada Aviation Museum and the Vintage Wings of Canada, expects over a hundred aircraft to fly throughout this two-day event. This event proves to be an amazing opportunity to experience vintage aircraft just minutes from downtown Ottawa.
A hundred years ago, in February 1909, a few lucky people witnessed J.A.D. McCurdy's Silver Dart flying off a frozen lake at Baddeck, Nova Scotia, becoming the first motorized aircraft to fly in the country’s history. A century later, in honour of this milestone and countless others that have made Canadian aviation history, the Canada Aviation Museum is the place to come for just plane fun.
Everybody will find something to do and enjoy at the Classic Air Rallye. There is no need to be an aviation expert to enjoy this beautiful spectacle, and unlike other air shows, people are encouraged to participate and get up close and personal, to mingle amongst each other and interact with pilots from all over the country.
Visitors will enjoy traveling through time, browsing through antique and classic cars, Second World War re-enactors, and other kiosks. They will also have the opportunity to see the Canada Aviation Museum’s static collection, displaying some of the same aircraft which will be taking off before their eyes, and getting to learn about them, an exciting and enriching combination.
With the Rockcliffe Airport close by, the Museum is an ideal space and beautiful space for such an event.
Join us at the Canada Aviation Museum Friday Aug. 28, 2009 at 11 a.m., A Two-day admission to the site is $20 for adults ($15 for members), accompanied children under 12 enter for free (including Museum admission). OC Transpo bus #129 Rockcliffe goes to the Museum. No pets allowed (except assistance dogs).
