Oct. 20, 2009, Toronto – Jazz Air has dropped lawsuits against the Toronto Port Authority and Porter Airlines over Porter's startup in 2006 at Toronto's City Centre Airport.
The regional carrier spun off from Air Canada (TSX:AC.A) had launched separate suits against the port authority and Porter in a legal fight that started over access to the downtown airport.
At the time, Jazz said it wanted fair and equal access to the Toronto City Centre Airport, alleging it was frozen out of the airport in a bid by Porter to eliminate competition.
During the battle Porter also sued Jazz, asking the court to sever ties between Jazz and Air Canada, alleging their capacity-sharing agreement is illegal, and seeking $850 million in damages.
Porter says it has not dropped that claim.
Porter is the only commercial airline operating from the small, island-based airport, within sight of Toronto's downtown towers.
