Olympic take-off and landing reservations required.

Nov. 10, 2009 – With the opening ceremonies of the 2010 Winter Olympic Games less than 100 days away, the push to have all safety and security measures fully in place is on. With record levels of aviation activity expected at Vancouver International Airport (YVR) during the 2010 Winter Games period (Jan. 29 – Mar. 24) the Vancouver Airport Authority has set up a reservation system in order to help it meet its primary goal of safe and efficient operations during the Games.

This means that any aircraft flying into Vancouver International Airport, Boundary Bay Airport (ZBB) or Abbotsford International Airport (YXX) will be required to book a reservation in advance. Flights without a reservation will not be allowed to land or take off from YVR, ZBB, or YXX

Aircraft flying into or out of YVR or ZBB will require: Approval from the Vancouver 2010 Integrated Security Unit (ISU), a flight-plan from NAV Canada and a reservation for arrival and departure times at YVR and ZBB.

Aircraft flying into or out of YXX will require: A reservation for arrival and departure times.

All Reservations into and out of YVR, ZBB and YXX will be managed by the Airport Reservation Office (ARO).

The ARO will also manage bookings through the three portal airports located in British Columbia: Abbotsford, Kelowna, Victoria.

If accessing YVR or ZBB via the U.S. Gateways or Calgary, Alberta airports, arrival/departure arrangements must be made directly with the applicable airport.

A website has been setup at www.2010airportreservations.ca to provide all information necessary to place a reservation, including an easy to follow five-step ‘How to Make a Reservation’ walkthrough, a section for frequently asked questions (FAQ) and a calendar to check the availability of desired dates.
