Nov. 13, 2009, Victoria, B.C., – Having flown the Canadian high arctic for forty years, Buffalo Airways will soon be flying into homes across Canada as the star of the new History Television series, Ice Pilots NWT.

The 13-part series follows the adventures of the pilots at Buffalo Airways, flying the airline’s legendary fleet of DC-3s, DC-4s, and other workhorse planes, hauling passengers and freight across the great Canadian North.  While Buffalo’s airplanes may be vintage, the company’s fleet is outfitted with state-of-the-art flight following, flight data transmission, and satellite telephone systems supplied and supported by Latitude Technologies.

Buffalo chose Latitude’s SkyNode® S-series voice and data satellite transceivers together with Latitude’s Web Sentinel™ mapping and dispatch services to capture and report aircraft location, routing, and other real-time operating performance data.  Aircraft using SkyNode S-200 transceivers also have 2-way voice and text capability, adding another layer of real-time communication from the flight deck to Buffalo’s operations centre.

About Ice Pilots
Filmed over nine months, the Ice Pilots NWT series features the maverick people and extraordinary adventures of Buffalo Airways, the most unorthodox airline in the North.  The companion Ice Pilots website, www.icepilots.com, offers a look into the people of Buffalo Airways, the planes they fly, and the rugged environment in which they live and work.  A key feature of the site is an interactive story map of the Northwest Territories, in which viewers can share their personal stories about flying in the North by uploading text, photos, and voice recordings.  Ice Pilots NWT is produced by Omni Film Productions Ltd.  For more information, contact Andrew Poon, Lead Publicist, at This e-mail address is being protected from spam bots, you need JavaScript enabled to view it or 604-318-1882.
