MAF responds to Haiti earthquake
Jan. 19, 2010 – Mission Aviation Fellowship is responding to the devastating earthquake in Haiti with its five MAF missionary families, nine national staff members, and four aircraft from its base of operations in Port-au-Prince.

In Port-au-Prince, MAF Canada missionaries Jason and Wilhelmina Krul, report that they, and their MAF colleagues are fine and regrouping as they determine how best to serve the people of their adopted country.

Jason has reported “When I walk down the street to my house - most is flattened. There is absolute devastation here, dead bodies line the streets.”

Many aftershocks have continued throughout the night and into this morning.

The international airport control tower collapsed, the airport has experienced significant damage and continues to remain closed. Among the devastation we are pleased to report that the four MAF Cessna airplanes are undamaged and once the airport is reopened, will be available for the anticipated massive relief effort to follow. MAF serves 16 airstrips throughout the country from its base in Port-au-Prince.

MAF Canada urgently needs your support for the need in Haiti. To donate online, visit http://www.mafc.org or call 1-877-351-9344 toll-free.

Mission Aviation Fellowship is a Christian organization whose mission is to fly aircraft in developing countries so that people in isolated areas can receive the help they need. Since 1946, MAF has been working in places of deepest human need – where flying is not a luxury, but a lifeline.
