Canadian government invests in Flin Flon upgrades
August 11, 2010, Ottawa - The Honourable Vic Toews, on behalf of Canada's Transport Minister Chuck Strahl, today announced funding that will allow the Flin Flon Airport to make important safety and infrastructure upgrades. By investing $478,444, the airport will be able to replace the self-propelled runway snowblower and replace the towed runway sweeper.

"Our Government is committed to aviation safety in Flin Flon and across Canada," said Minister Toews. "The Government of Canada is investing in Flin Flon Airport to ensure that efficient, safe, and affordable systems are in place to serve the Manitobans well into the future."

"The City of Flin Flon welcomes this investment. Flin Flon's airport at Baker's Narrows serves a broad region of Northwest Manitoba and is a vital link in the region's economy as well as fulfilling an irreplaceable role in its health and recreation infrastructure. Large pieces of equipment like the snowblower and sweeper would be very difficult to fund by a small municipality like Flin Flon alone, were it not for this funding. The City commends the Federal Government for its continued support, and hopes that our collaborative relationship will continue well into the future," said Mark Kolt, Municipal Administrator, the City of Flin Flon.
