I promised an interview with Daniel
Verreault, Director, Air Investigation, TSB.
In the last issue, I promised an interview with the man responsible
for investigating aviation accidents and incidents in Canada: Daniel
Verreault, Director, Air Investigation, Transportation Safety Board of
Canada (TSB).
Verreault is an out-of-the box thinker with a clear understanding of
the TSB's future. His intuition, broad interpretation of policy and
goals and his engineer's precision for problem solving will serve the
public well as the TSB evolves. He took up his present position almost
a year ago.
JI: Now that you've been there for a while, is it what you expected?
DV:
I am still astonished at how we successfully bring together the
technical and human issues of an occurrence.This requires the ability
of the investigator to shift from the left side of the brain to the
right and back again while, at times, under tremendous stress.The
‘sleuth' element of the job ... is coupled with the close, personal,
human aspect of dealing with people - especially next of kin and/or the
survivors of fatal accidents. The TSB had always been a area of great
interest to me, and I find myself even more fascinated as we evolve.
