Air Canada posts solid July traffic

Aug. 4, 2011, Montreal - For the month of July, Air Canada reported a record system load factor of 86.4 per cent, versus 84.9 per cent in July 2010, an increase of 1.5 percentage points.

System traffic increased 4.3 per cent on a system-wide capacity increase of 2.5 per cent. Air Canada reports traffic results on a system-wide basis, including regional airlines from which Air Canada purchases capacity.

"I am very pleased to report a record load factor of 86.4 per cent for the month of July.  Traffic grew in all markets Air Canada serves generating system-wide traffic growth of 4.3 per cent on a capacity increase of 2.5 per cent through higher utilization of our existing fleet," said Calin Rovinescu, President and Chief Executive Officer.  "As we reported in our second quarter financial results issued today, our disciplined approach to capacity management, combined with Air Canada's industry leading product, drove strong revenue performance and yield growth, contributing to the second quarter's operating profit.  I want to thank our employees for their commitment to taking care of our customers and for safely transporting them to their destination during this peak travel period of the year."
