March 5, 2208, Fort Lauderdale, FL – A flight from the Dominican Republic to Canada has made an emergency landing at the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport after eight passengers complained of being sick. Airport spokesman Greg Meyer says Air Transat flight 477 was quarantined on the runway after it landed late Tuesday. U.S. Centres for Disease Control officials later determined the sick passengers were not suffering from any airborne illness. Authorities say the eight passengers are hospitalized.
Meyer says they are all family members who had eaten together earlier. Meyer says the CDC cleared the remaining 245 passengers and nine crew members and the flight continued its trip to Edmonton early this morning.
