Alkan Air celebrates opening of Nanaimo base

Canadian aviation company Alkan Air Ltd. (Alkan Air) has announced the official opening of its hangar and operations base at Nanaimo Airport in B.C.

The company’s newly constructed hangar hosted a celebration this past weekend to mark the occasion, which included approximately 50 members of the local business community, mayor Bill McKay and the airport’s chair and president.

“The team at Alkan Air was excited to share this important milestone for our company with our clients, our business partners and Nanaimo’s business leaders as we expand our operations into B.C.,” said Alkan Air president Wendy Tayler. “We have been providing aviation services in Canada for 40 years and look forward to offering the same exceptional customized flight solutions for our Vancouver Island based clients.”

“We are delighted to welcome Alkan Air and its wide range of flight services”, shared Mike Hooper, Nanaimo Airport’s president and CEO. “This growth aligns with the airport’s priority to increase business utilization of airport lands and will have a significant positive economic impact on our region.”

The 9,000-square foot hangar employs five full time local residents.

Established in 1977 in Whitehorse, Alkan Air provides remote site and corporate charters, bulk fuel transport, private and commercial flight training. FBO facilities and air ambulance services.
