April 2, 2008, Aurora, Oregon,  – Artex Aircraft Supplies, Inc. has
received Transport Canada and Industry Canada approval for the ME406
ELT model series. Customers will be able to purchase the ME406 (fixed
wing), ME406 HM (helicopter), ME406 ACE (retrofit system for ACK
2-frequency ELTs) and the ME406P (automatic portable for fixed wing and
helicopter applications) through the Artex distributor network for
installation into aircraft registered in Canada. The change to a
different battery chemistry that made the Transport Canada and Industry
Canada certification possible also allows Artex to extend the useful
battery life for the ME406 ELT series from five years to six years.

Artex is currently undertaking the required steps to ramp up production
in order to satisfy the rapidly increasing demands for 406 MHz ELTs
allowing customers to retrofit their aircrafts before the February 1,
2009 deadline after which COSPAS/SARSAT will terminate the satellite
monitoring of the 121.5 MHz emergency frequency. From that date on,
only digital signals transmitted from 406 MHz TSO C126 ELTs will be
processed by the satellite system.
