Mediacorp, in partnership with The Globe and Mail, released its annual list of Canada’s Top 100 Employers for 2020, which includes two aviation-focused companies in Air Canada and NAV CANADA.

Air Canada was named to the program, built around a survey designed to recognize employers with exceptional human resources programs and forward-thinking workplace policies, for the seventh consecutive year. NAV CANADA was recognized for a fourth consecutive year.

“This recognition for the seventh straight year validates our work making culture and employee engagement one of our core focuses,” said Arielle Meloul-Wechsler, senior VP, people, culture and communications, Air Canada. “Our company culture which fosters an engaged workforce has become a true competitive advantage, and we are very proud of Air Canada’s more than 33,000 dedicated employees who deliver excellent service safely to the 51 million customers we carry each year.”

For this year’s competition, the Canada’s Top 100 Employers group began with an initial list of more than 90,000 employers. Mediacorp graded those selected on eight criteria, which have remained constant since the project’s inception: Physical Workplace; Work Atmosphere & Social; Health, Financial & Family Benefits; Vacation & Time-Off; Employee Communications; Performance Management; Training & Skills Development; and Community Involvement.

In citing Air Canada’s 2020 inclusion, Mediacorp pointed to a range of employee support and engagement programs, including: state-of-the-art training facilities; programs to promote health, fitness and wellness; benefits and perks for employees and their families; and a consultative approach to workplace developments, such as recent head office renovations where Air Canada sought employee feedback on everything from storage space design to the final décor.

Air Canada notes it receives 194,000 visits each month to the employment page of its website and on average there are 362 applicants per position for each vacancy filled. In 2018 alone, Air Canada hired more than 6,500 people.

With over 5,000 employees across the country, NAV CANADA is a private, not-for-profit company, established in 1996, providing air traffic control, airport advisory services, weather briefings and aeronautical information services for more than 18 million square kilometres of Canadian domestic and international airspace.

NAV CANADA has supported more than 300 charities and community organizations and contributed over $1 million to community causes. The NAV CANADA Cares program encourages employees to support a cause or charity by matching individual contributions or providing funds for employees to support charitable efforts in more remote locations. NAV CANADA’s THRIVE program is designed to promote physical, psychological and financial well-being of its people and their families.
