Nov. 13, 2014, Ottawa - The Canada Aviation and Space Museum hopes an Internet crowdfunding campaign can fuel the launch of a documentary film chronicling the contributions of Canadian aviators in the Second World War.

The museum is seeking $35,000 through indiegogo.com for its Legacy Project film, which will relate first-person accounts of the air war from veterans and civilians. Students from Algonquin College, La Cité collégiale and Ryerson University conducted interviews for the documentary, which will be made available for download by schools.

Launched Monday, the campaign runs until Dec. 19. Contributors of $10 or more receive rewards ranging from a “sneak peek” of the film to a biplane ride above Ottawa. As of noon Wednesday the campaign had raised $235.

While only a small percentage of Indiegogo campaigns are believed to reach their targets — the company doesn’t disclose success rates — the site differs from “all or nothing” competitors by allowing participants to collect whatever amount is raised.
