Aviation Sector Council CAMC rebrands itself to CCAA

Council for Aviation & Aerospace (CCAA). CCAA will continue to assist the industry with skills development and
the demographic challenges it faces.

Describing the name change, CCAA Executive Director Robert Donald stated, “Although its origins are in the aviation maintenance segment of the industry, the work of the Council increasingly encompassed other areas. For example, in 2005, CAMC published four occupational standards for aerospace manufacturing, and in 2008 it completed a study of the aerospace industry. In 2010, it completed studies on commercial pilots (fixed wing and rotary) and Canadian airports. The CAMC name no longer reflected the true scope of the Council’s work and consequently the name has now been changed to Canadian Council for Aviation & Aerospace (CCAA).”
As a sector council, CCAA is a not-for-profit Canadian corporation that takes direction from its Board of Directors, its other boards and committees, as well as its members and partners. Sector councils work as a uniting element to engage employers, workers, educators, professional associations and government in a strategic alliance that is focused on implementing solutions to the specific skills and human resource needs that will enable the sector to thrive. There are currently 34 sector councils, each operating in a major sector of the Canadian economy (e.g., mining, forestry, fishing, petroleum, and trucking). CCAA is the council for the aviation and aerospace industry.
CCAA receives the majority of its funding from the Canadian government through its Sector Council Program administered by Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC). Funding is provided to conduct studies, and projects to develop specific tools to assist the aviation and aerospace industry.
In order to ensure that its studies and projects deliver tangible results to industry, CCAA solicits the advice of industry with respect to concept and direction for these projects. CCAA also works closely with national and regional industry associations, many of whom are represented on CCAA’s board of directors.
The Canadian aviation and aerospace sector employs over 200,000 workers with sales of more than 24 billion dollars annually. Canadian firms are global market leaders in regional aircraft, business jets, commercial helicopters, small gas turbine engines, flight simulation, landing gear, space applications and many other areas. They are also globally competitive sources of supply for maintenance, repair and overhaul (MRO) services.
