Bert van der Stege to lead Swoop commercial

Bert van der Stege joins Swoop as Head of Commercial, effective today, February 24. With more than 20 years of international aviation experience, van der Stege most recently served as vice president and chief commercial officer at the Halifax International Airport Authority.

“Bert has built an incredible reputation for himself within our industry and with his strategic and innovative approach to airline operations, I know he will help us continue to deliver on our mission to make air travel more affordable for Canadians,” said Steven Greenway, president, Swoop.

van der Stege joins Swoop’s executive team, reporting directly to Steven Greenway, and will oversee the ultra-low-cost airline’s network and planning, pricing and revenue, distribution and sales, and marketing efforts.

“Swoop is changing the way Canadians travel and allowing more of them to see and experience the world,” said van der Stege. “I am excited to join an airline that is disrupting the industry while making a positive impact on the lives of its travellers.”

Swoop notes van der Stege has studied in a range of countries, holding a Bachelor and a Master of Science in International Business. He continued to travel the world in management and executive roles with Lufthansa German Airlines, RwandAir, First Air and most recently the Halifax International Airport Authority.

Swoop celebrates two-millionth traveller

Established in 2018, Swoop is part of the WestJet Group of companies and now offers scheduled service to 17 destinations in Canada, the U.S., Mexico and the Caribbean. The airline operates a fleet of nine Boeing 737-800 aircraft.
