Canadian Aviation Expo joins Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum

Jan. 19, 2009, Hamilton, Ont. – In 1972 The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum was founded with the goal of preserving and celebrating Canada’s rich aviation heritage. In 1992 the Canadian Aviation Expo was founded with a goal of promoting aviation and fostering growth in this exciting and dynamic industry.

Two-thousand and nine will mark the 100th Anniversary of flight here in Canada and it’s fitting that Canada’s aviation heritage will come together with its future in a new and exciting way as the Canadian Aviation Expo joins the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum.

In 2001 the Oshawa Municipal Airport enthusiastically welcomed the Canadian Aviation Expo. At that time the Oshawa Municipal Airport was a local airport serving primarily the needs of the local community. Since then the airport has transitioned to an executive level Regional Airport serving the broader business needs across the Eastern GTA and Durham Region. As a result of this growth the City of Oshawa is committed to expand the airport with the construction of new infrastructure and taxiways and next spring will mark the start of private sector construction of over 110,000 square feet of new hangar space. Over the past 8 years it has been the Expo’s privilege to be part of such a rich and vibrant aviation community.

Over its 16 year history the Canadian Aviation Expo has moved 5 times and the opportunity to make the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum our permanent home allows us to look forward into the next 16 years and beyond. The Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum boasts Canada’s largest collection of flying vintage aircraft housed in a modern state of the art facility at the Hamilton Munroe International Airport, located in Hamilton, Ontario just west of Toronto. With the overall Show and Museum together under one roof attendees will have access to over 100,000 square feet of exciting indoor aviation displays coupled with a large adjacent outdoor aircraft display area. More than enough space to accommodate the Expo now and into the future.

Along with moving venues the Expo will also return to its original show dates of early May in order to capitalize on the enthusiasm and energy that follows the spring thaw. As always the Expo will have a strong focus on aviation and the 2009 Expo will include a series of seminars by industry experts and exhibitors throughout the two day event. The event will begin with a VIP gala on Friday night where exhibitors can invite their very best customers to preview the Expo in advance of the regular Saturday and Sunday openings.

The Expo will continue to include strong support and participation by the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association and the Canadian Aviator magazine will once again publish the Expo Show Guide as a feature in their May/June issue. All of this puts the very best of aviation in front of qualified aviators, aircraft owners, aviation enthusiast and future pilots. The dates for 2009 are May 1st, 2nd and 3rd and over the next few weeks we will be finalizing the Expo details and floor plan with complete details coming shortly. It’s important to note that there will not be any increase in exhibitor fees and as an added bonus there will be additional opportunities for indoor aircraft display space. As in the past our very popular exhibitor demonstration flights will be taking place along with CWH member flights in a variety of their vintage aircraft. As an added bonus admission to the Expo will include full access to the Museum and attendees flying into the Expo can be easily accommodated on the aircraft apron immediately in front of the Museum.
