CMC acquires license for SmartDeck technologies

Oct. 19, 2010 – Esterline CMC Electronics (CMC) has executed an agreement with L-3 Communications Avionics Systems (L-3) to acquire an exclusive license for the SmartDeck® integrated cockpit technologies.

Oct. 19, 2010 – Esterline CMC Electronics (CMC) has executed an agreement with L-3 Communications Avionics Systems (L-3) to acquire an exclusive license for the SmartDeck® integrated cockpit technologies. By licensing these technologies, CMC aims to expand its product portfolio and enhance its cockpit capabilities, for both OEM and retrofit opportunities.

Greg Yeldon, president of Esterline CMC Electronics, said: “The SmartDeck technologies are state-of-the-art and will advance CMC’s cockpit retrofit solutions. Licensing the SmartDeck technology will accelerate CMC’s market penetration and contribute to enhancing its current and future cockpit solutions portfolio. We plan to build on the current SmartDeck technologies using our experience in Part 23 and Part 25 cockpit certification to grow SmartDeck into various adaptable solutions for all types of aircraft.”

The SmartDeck technologies that CMC is licensing also include products such as the synthetic vision system and digital map that are complementary to CMC’s cockpit and aviation product lines, such as CMC’s PilotView® Electronic Flight Bag and SureSight® Enhanced Vision System sensor.

CMC has world leading expertise in cockpit retrofits and new cockpit systems, for Part 23 and Part 25 aircraft. CMC has developed its systems integration capability through the cockpit modernization of C-130 transport aircraft and flight management system retrofits of Boeing 747 Classic, DC-10 and MD-80 aircraft. In recent years, CMC has become a leader in integrated glass cockpit avionics suites for the military trainer market, addressing OEM and retrofit programs. Platforms include the Hawker Beechcraft T-6B, Korea Aerospace Industries KT-1C, and upgraded Hawk Mk51 and Mk66 for Patria.
