Do you know an awesome woman in aviation?
Nominations are now being accepted for the third annual Elsie MacGill Northern Lights Award. This award is given annually to a woman who has made significant contributions to aviation or aerospace in Canada.

for the third annual Elsie MacGill Northern Lights Award. This award is
given annually to a woman who has made significant contributions to
aviation or aerospace in Canada.
The first award was given to Heather Sifton in 2009 for her contribution to the aviation community in her role as owner and operator of Buttonville Airport, one of the busiest airports in Canada. The 2010 Awardee was Kathy Fox, retired VP Operations for Nav Canada, currently a member of the Transportation Safety Board. Kathy is also a skydiver, pilot, instructor and adventurer!
The award is named after Elsie MacGIll, the first Canadian woman to graduate with a degree in electrical engineering (U of Toronto). She also went on to receive an advanced degree in aeronautics (U of Michigan) and become the first woman aircraft designer.
She became known as the “Queen of the Hurricanes” while she was the chief engineer for Canada Car and Foundry in Thunder Bay, Ontario and oversaw the wartime production of the Hawker Hurricane.
The 2011 recipient will be honoured at the award dinner on September 29th, 2011 at The School Restaurant in Markham, Ontario.
