• CHANGES TO COPA’S PAYMENT PROCESSES – Effective October 1, 2023, the Canadian Owners and Pilots Association (COPA) will no longer accept any form of payment other than credit cards for new memberships and for the renewal of memberships. Additionally, members are encouraged to select the “automatic renewal” option to ensure that your membership remains in good standing. Please note that COPA does not have access to credit card information. Your card details are held and protected by our payment system Stripe. This change will improve efficiency and reduce costs for the association and will ultimately help to fulfil our mission and better serve our members. Please note that COPA will still accept cheques for donations of $100 or more to the Freedom to Fly Fund and to the Flight Safety Foundation.
• ADVOCACY UPDATES – August 10 the Canadian ADS-B mandate comes into effect in Class A airspace. COPA continues to engage with NAV CANADA and Transport Canada to promote the need to accommodate GA in future implementations of the mandate in other classes of airspace. Other advocacy efforts also continue to focus on BasicMed in Canada; 406 ELTs; Luxury Tax; NPA 2023-005; and other key issues. Keep following this section of our bi-weekly eFlight for updates as they happen.
• EVENTS – Many General Aviation events are taking place this summer. Scroll down to find the closest event to you!
• COPA FLIGHT SPOTLIGHT – COPA Flight 65’s Discover Aviation Vernon event was a no-go due to visibility issues brought on by forest fire smoke in the valley this past July 15. While disappointed, they have decided to reschedule for August 19. Thank you to all the volunteers and planning team members for your ongoing efforts to promote aviation within the Vernon surrounding area! Some of these volunteers include Rob McDicken, Marion Ross, Charles Ross, Melissa Hewson, Stuart McLean, Mike Hewson, Kensie Hewson, and Phillip Symanns.
