The Minister has just tabled a new piece of legislation, Bill C-52, the Air Transportation Accountability Act. Bill C-52 aims for greater transparency and accountability in the air transportation sector by establishing requirements respecting the provision of information to the Minister of Transport by airport operators, air carriers and any entity providing flight-related services.
Unfortunately, absent from this bill are measures that the industry has long been asking for, that is the enshrinement of safety data protection, an ICAO and world-recognized concept that aims to achieve commercially sensitive safety improvements that are safety data driven.
