Edmonton to be Swoop’s second base

Swoop today celebrated its inaugural flight from Edmonton International Airport (YEG) to John C. Munro Hamilton International Airport (YHM). In addition to this sold-out first flight, Swoop announced Edmonton as its second operational base. The airline has almost fulfilled a week of service at its Eastern Canada base in Hamilton, Ontario, from where service began on June 20.

“Edmonton is a market keen to enjoy the ultra-low-cost fares Swoop provides,” said Steven Greenway, president and CEO, Swoop. “This, along with Edmonton International Airport Authority's support, has meant that we've chosen Edmonton as our second operational base. Swoop, as an Alberta-born organization, is thrilled to be in Edmonton as a second home."

As of October, Swoop will base two of its Boeing 737-800 aircraft in Edmonton resulting in the creation of almost 90 jobs in the region.

“We are happy to welcome Swoop to the Edmonton Metro Region,” said Tom Ruth, president and CEO, Edmonton International Airport. “Edmonton's newest air carrier will provide more flight choices and great value to passengers.”

Today, the airline also launched its inaugural flight from Winnipeg Richardson International airport to Hamilton. Swoop's initial schedule offers service from Abbotsford, Edmonton, Winnipeg, Hamilton and Halifax.
