Feb. 20, 2009, Sao Paulo, Brazil – Brazil's Embraer plane maker says it will reduce its workforce by 20 per cent because of the global economic crisis.
Empresa Brasileira Aeronautica SA says the job reductions affect employees in operations, administration and management.
A company statement Thursday blames the economic crisis for hurting the transportation sector and sales of mid-range jets and executive jets.
Embraer is one of the world's biggest plane makers and now employs 21,362 people in Brazil and abroad.
It has not said exactly how many posts would be eliminated, but said overall reduction would be about 20 per cent.
