Nov. 30, 2009 – Search-and-rescue officials in British Columbia say six people are missing, including an infant, after a float plane crash in the Gulf Islands.

Cpl. Saralynn Hickey of the Victoria joint-rescue co-ordination centre says the plane was carrying eight people when it crashed late in the afternoon in Lyall Harbour off Saturna Island.

Hickey says two people including the pilot were rescued by auxiliary coast guard members, while six are still unaccounted for.

The plane was taking off at the time, although nothing is known about what caused the crash.
