July 21, 2009 – International Communications Group (ICG) recently hosted a two-day conference on ACARS, CPDLC and FANS featuring presentations from five companies that are leading the industry into the Next Generation Air Transportation System (NextGen). The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) also provided a perspective on the agency’s Global Operational Data Link (GOLD) initiative to harmonize oceanic and continental datalinks worldwide.

The FAA presentation also focused on its commitment to “take advantage of the opportunity to plan for and implement satellite and datalink operations wherever beneficial.  In all, the conference, which was held at the Kingsmill Resort in Williamsburg, Virginia featured presentations from ARINC, Esterline CMC Electronics, Spectrolux Avionics, Iridium, and of course, ICG in addition to the FAA session.  The second day featured a tour of ICG’s Newport News facilities.

“This conference was designed to provide invitees, who ranged from representatives of the airlines to business aviation and charter operators with insights on how Iridium and datalink services are changing and how the products we provide can help then prepare for the future,” said Armin Jabs, Chief Operating Officer of ICG and host of the event.  Subject matter for the sessions included ACARS, CPDLC, FANS, Electronic Flight Bags and the paperless cockpit, Cabin Flight Services and even real time credit card clearing onboard aircraft in flight.  All of the conference presentations are available on ICG’s website at www.icg.aero.
