Is it “unconscionable” for Jazz to pull life vests out of some of its planes?

Woody French, the mayor of Conception Bay South, says he finds it
unconscionable that Jazz is pulling life vests out of some of its planes to save on fuel.

Transport Canada allows airlines to use lighter
flotation devices instead of life vests for flights within 90 kilometres of shore. Jazz recently announced that its east coast routes have been
adjusted to meet that requirement.

French, who has a background in occupational health and safety,
says it's another example of passenger consideration coming in a
distant second. He says he is currently attempting to bring a committee together
to better lobby the federal government on passenger rights issues.

Is it
"unconscionable" for Jazz to pull life vests out of some of its planes?

Not at all. First of all, the regulations allow for it, so all this time Jazz had been over-delivering on its commitments, which is fine, provided it makes economical sense.

If the airline can save some money on fuel and stay within the law, why not? The added risk to passengers is minimal, while the benefits for passenger fares and the environment are immediately recognizable and tangible. Seems like a good idea.
