Nov. 23, 2007, Winnipeg, Man. -It is hard to get an air show off of the ground
without aircraft and sponsors.

Organizers say they have cancelled the Manitoba Air Show
scheduled for May 2008 near Portage la Prairie due to a lack of
corporate support.

Spokesman Barry Feller said they also couldn't get a commitment
from the U.S. military for the type of fighter and bomber planes
that air show enthusiasts like to see.

In place of the air show, Winnipeg-based 17 Wing will hold a
Canadian Forces Day involving the army, the navy and the air force
at Southport, a former military base converted to a public airport.

Air show cancellations are becoming increasingly common.

Last year, Ottawa cancelled its air show and events in Halifax
and Saskatoon have also faced challenges.
