Manitoba crash shows need for better runway safety: TSB
June 21, 2012, Gatineau, Que. - The Transportation Safety Board says a deadly plane crash in northern Manitoba demonstrates the need for more safety measures at the ends of runways.

The board has issued its report into the July 4, 2011, crash of a Cessna plane in Pukatawagan that killed one passenger and injured eight others.
The board says the plane did not become airborne in time during takeoff, ran down a steep embankment and caught fire.
The board's regional manager, Peter Hildebrand, says the board has called on airports to ensure there are safe areas beyond the ends of runways.
The report says the pilot's takeoff technique, possible shifting winds and a soft runway surface also contributed to the crash.
The report also notes the passenger who was killed was not wearing a shoulder harness.
