National book launch at the Canada Aviation and Space Museum

Oct. 26, 2010, Ottawa - On October 27, 2010, the Canada Aviation and Space Museum will host the national launch of My Countdown, The Story Behind My Husband’s Spaceflight, written by Dr. Lena De Winne.

October 26, 2010  By Carey Fredericks

Dr. De Winne’s story is told from the truly unique perspective of someone married to an astronaut, who also has many years of experience working in the space industry. She writes with authority and passion about preparing for her husband’s participation in an extended mission aboard the International Space Station.

The book provides a first-hand account of the complex preparations required for staffed space flight. The individual stories of crewmembers Roman Romanenko, Bob Thirsk, Frank De Winne, and their spouses Julia, Brenda, and Lena, are presented as they prepare for and embark on this mission.

My Countdown, The Story Behind My Husband’s Spaceflight, published by Apogee Prime, will be available at the Museum’s boutique and on amazon.com. All proceeds from the book will be donated to UNICEF Belgium, for whom Dr. De Winne’s husband, Frank De Winne, is a goodwill ambassador. At 1 p.m., Mrs. De Winne will make a short presentation about the book, and will then be available to sign autographs.
