Keynote Speaker: Gordon Graham

Continuing his series on risk management, CBAA has retained for the
third year this outstanding speaker to anchor the CBAA Safety Week in
Montreal. Following last years presentation in Calgary, many
participants requested Gordon Graham be reengaged by CBAA and this year
a working lunch presentation focuses on Ethical Decision Making, and
the afternoon presentation is “Why things go right, Why things go
wrong” .

Tuesday, November 13 – US Operating Requirements Forum

The CBAA has invited an expert panel of speakers from the US
Department of Transportation (DOT), US Bureau of Customs & Border
Protection (CBP), and US Citizenship & Immigration Services (CIS).

The program will consist of a comprehensive overview of U.S.
aeronautical rules and regulations governing transport and third
country operations by Canadian operators. Information provided in this
seminar will apply to small and large aircraft operators alike, and
will include regulatory issues affecting corporate, charter, and
scheduled operations. This is an excellent time for this event
considering the recent changes to transborder procedures, including
passport requirements and the impending random inspection of general
aviation aircraft for security compliance.

Wednesday, November 14 – CBAA Safety Forum

There will be a Private Operating Certificate Holders Risk
Management Panel for the morning session. This panel of experts will
provide POC holders and aircraft operators in general important
information on how to develop and manage an effective company specific
safety management system.

There will then be a working lunch and afternoon session with our
keynote speaker Mr. Gordon Graham. During the working lunch Mr. Graham
will give an overview on the decision making process and his ten step
process, “GRIDM”, Graham’s Rules for Improved Decision Making.” for
making better, ethical decisions. The afternoon session is titled Why
Things Go Right – Why Things Go Wrong. It is an organizational risk
management look inside any organization to show what can be done today
to avoid/minimize incidents from going wrong.

Thursday, November 15 – Flight Department Management – Maintenance Related Roles and Responsibilities Workshop

This workshop addresses the concerns of maintenance control, as
well as the concerns of maintenance. In Canada, it is important not to
perceive the company and the operator as one and the same, but rather
that the company has an operator certificate which authorizes it to
operate certain kinds of aircraft and with this authorization carries
with it the responsibility to control maintenance. In essence,
maintenance control is about ensuring that the rules are met, with the
ultimate responsibility of technical dispatch (releasing the aircraft
for flight). This workshop is designed to clarify many of the
misunderstandings associated with maintenance control, as well as
providing important information on how flight department managers can
make this oversight process effective.
