Ontario government invests in Peterborough airport

On Friday at the Peterborough Airport it was announced that the Government of Ontario is supporting the City of Peterborough with an Eastern Ontario Development Fund (EODF) grant the amount of $1 million that will be put towards facilities upgrades and expansion of the airport. The total project is valued at over $4 million and will see industrial expansion at the east end of the Airport. The City will start the site preparation and municipal servicing of the next phase of industrial expansion. The project will ensure an adequate amount of land is construction-ready for future large-scale industrial hangars and support the immediate construction of airport aprons and a new taxiway. Other upgrades include installing a sanitary sewer, water main and fire main through the proposed taxiway corridor to connect with the existing services on Airport Road.

Peterborough’s aerospace sector continues to grow, and currently employs over 400 people – with companies including Flying Colours Corp., The Loomex Group, Sciens Industries, Seneca College’s School of Aviation among others. There are also a number of businesses in Peterborough’s advanced manufacturing sector who supply to the aerospace sector.

The Peterborough Airport is Canada’s busiest small airport with approximately 70,000 movements per year and has the longest runway between Toronto and Ottawa.
