ALPA endorses value of Safety Management Systems (SMS)
Safety Management Systems (SMS) continue to be a valuable tool to enhance safety in aviation and other transportation industries in Canada, according to the Air Line Pilots Association, International (ALPA), the world's largest non-governmental aviation safety organization. "SMS programs ensure continuing safety by combining the appropriate levels of incentive for front-line employee reporting, internal auditing and regulatory oversight," said Capt. Dan Adamus, president of ALPA's Canada Board. "Canada is a world leader in adopting SMS programs in its marine, rail, and aviation industries, and ALPA is proud to be part of that effort."

Bombardier scores large order from Atlasjet
Bombardier Aerospace announced today that Atlasjet Havacilik A.S. of Istanbul, Turkey, has signed a letter of intent (LOI) to acquire 10 CS300 jetliners and take options on a further five CS300 aircraft. Based on the list price of the CS300 airliner, a firm-order contract would be valued at US $776 million, and could increase to US $1.18 billion if the five options were converted to firm orders.

Another shutdown of FAA a possibility
Another shutdown of the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration is possible because lawmakers haven't resolved a labour issue that's holding up passage of a long-term funding bill for the agency, a key senator said Monday. Sen. Jay Rockefeller, D-W.Va., chairman of the Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Committee, told aviation industry officials at a luncheon that the chief holdup is a dispute between one airline and labour unions over a provision that would make it more difficult for airline workers to unionize.

GAL Aviation joins forces with MENA Aerospace
Quebec City's GAL Aviation Inc. and Bahrain's MENA Aerospace Enterprises WLL will establish GAL MENA WLL, a joint venture based in Bahrain that will provide comprehensive services for corporate aircraft and VIP airliner interiors design, refurbishment and installation.
