WestJet to launch short-haul regional airline?
WestJet is considering launching a new short-haul regional airline in a move that would extend service to smaller communities and increase traffic to its current network. Few details were available on the proposed regional operation, other than that the company is thinking about launching it as early as 2013 using a fleet of approximately 40 smaller, turboprop aircraft.

Calgary's AeroMechanical Services wins large contract
AeroMechanical Services Ltd. said Monday it has signed a five-year contract worth as much as $1.9 million with an unnamed airline to provide automated flight information reporting systems for 19 aircraft.

B.C's Comox Valley Airport beats industry trends
The Comox Valley Airport (YQQ) announced last week that it served 308,937 passengers in 2011, an increase of 4.2 per cent or 12,370 passengers over the previous year. This new data puts YQQ well above the minimal passenger growth experienced by most airports across North America, as reported by Airports Council International.
