One dead after mid-air Ottawa collision
The Canadian Press reports one person is dead after two small planes crashed mid-air in the Ottawa area on Sunday morning.
One plane carrying two people managed to land at Ottawa International Airport, while the other plane crashed in a nearby field.
Paramedics informed The Canadian Press of one fatality in the plane that crashed in the field and that no injuries were reported from the other plane.
The CBC reports the pilot of the plane that landed at Ottawa International told air traffic control how the first aircraft hit the bottom of his plane, a twin-engine Piper Cheyenne, and affected his right landing gear.
Quoting Ottawa police, The Canadian Press reports the collision occurred over the west end of Ottawa just after 10 am. The Transportation Safety Board of Canada was sending a team to the scene.
