Porter previews new Toronto City Airport home

Feb. 23, 2010 – Porter Airlines' new home at Billy Bishop Toronto City
Airport is opening to passengers March 7. The $50 million passenger
terminal was unveiled at a ceremony showcasing enhanced passenger
services, further improving the travel experience at this revitalized
facility. Porter projects over 1.3 million passengers using the airport
in 2010.

"Toronto City Airport is an increasingly important part of the region's transportation infrastructure. This investment demonstrates a long-term commitment to customer-focused service at this location," said Robert Deluce, president and CEO of Porter Airlines. "Torontonians and visitors from an expanding list of regional destinations have clearly shown that they value Toronto City Airport based on record-setting passenger numbers."
 
Porter is a tenant of City Centre Terminal Corp., which operates the new terminal and is seeking retail, food services, duty-free, and other tenants for the 150,000 sq. ft., two-phase project. Phase one includes lounge facilities, a spacious check-in hall and office space. The full facility, including 10 bridged aircraft gates and two passenger lounges is scheduled for completion by fall 2010.
 
The new lounges will triple current capacity and include standard complimentary Porter amenities such as a business centre, modern lounge-style seating, beverages, snacks and Wi-Fi.
 
Porter has redefined regional flying in North America, emphasizing a premium passenger experience that continues attracting loyal customers who appreciate the return of dignified air travel.
 
"Three short years have given rise to tremendous growth at Porter. In October 2006, the airline was serving one market with two aircraft. As of today, passengers can book flights to 12 destinations beyond Toronto and the fleet has grown to include 18 aircraft," said Don Carty, chairman of Porter Airlines. "This building adds to the convenience and service-oriented aspects of travel from Porter's Toronto City Airport hub."
 
Today's ceremony also included a tribute to Billy Bishop, Canada's World War I flying ace. Billy's son Arthur and other family members were in attendance, and a display of memorabilia, such as Bishop's vintage WWI uniform and his original medal collection, including the Victoria Cross, the Commonwealth's highest military honour.
 
These items were displayed with co-operation of Billy Bishop Home & Museum in Owen Sound, and Canadian War Museum in Ottawa. A permanent exhibit at the airport will be in place later this year for passengers to learn more about this Canadian hero.
 
Building partners for the terminal are design architect Scott Associates Architects Inc., interior designer figure3 and lead contractor The Maple Reinders Group.
