Nov. 4, 2008, Calgary – Western Avionics has launced its new product
CommuniCube. The CommuniCube is a powerful wireless server designed for
installation into aircraft. Software modules configure the server to
perform different aircraft functions. The CommuniCube automatically
chooses the least expensive of 3 communication methods, Satellite, HF
or WiFi.

Available software modules include:

Flight Data Management Module listens to the FDR data buss and records
aircraft parameters. The CommuniCube transmits real time data, to the
ground. Air time, Engine time, Chock to Chock times, Exceedances, as
well as passenger and gate information can all be communicated
wirelessly through a touch screen display.

Automated Flight Following (Tracking Module) which is configurable for
different reporting frequencies, dependent of phase of flight.
Satellite phone is included with the AFF module.

EMS / Police Module which includes an audio controller where
complicated radio selection and channeling is replaced by a single
touch. The crewmember selects who they wish to speak to (Eg. RCMP or
EMS dispatch) and the CommuniCube selects the correct radio, frequency
and channeling automatically. This reduces training and improves ease
of use.

Maintenance Module tracks all of the aircrafts components and updates
maintenance times automatically. All aircraft information, times,
inspection status, Maintenance Manuals, etc, are carried on the
aircraft in the CommuniCube. A technician wirelessly connects his
laptop to the aircrafts CommuniCube and has access to all the technical
records and manuals for the specific aircraft being worked on. An
excellent solution for aircraft operated in remote areas.

Electronic Flight Bag Module has all of the standard features as well as the ability to wirelessly update databases.

Additional built in features include the ability to wirelessly send FDR
Correlation test data and CVR Intelligibility test results. Exceedance
reporting to email, Trend Analysis, and 3D Damage Mapping are all
integral to the CommuniCube.
