Provincial police to use two planes to patrol highways during holiday weekend

June 27, 2008, Niagara Falls, Ont.Motorists heading to cottages, camps and beaches in Ontario this weekend will do so under the watchful eye of the provincial police.

Commissioner Julian Fantino says two aircraft will be used to watch for speeding, drunk driving, tailgating and other infractions on the highways.

The planes will be used to cover much of the southern Ontario corridor between the Golden Horseshoe and the Kawartha district.

Police will also be in boats, ATVs, cruisers and motorcycles to patrol the highways, trails, lakes and rivers across the province.

Fantino says this is one of the busiest weekends of the year now that kids are out of school and many people starting summer vacations.
