Qantas Airways cancels flights due to labour woes

Oct. 6, 2011, Sydney, Aus. - Qantas Airways says another round of strikes by its ground workers and engineers will force it to cancel or delay dozens more flights.

The flagship Australian carrier says 17 flights will be cancelled on Friday and 29 flights delayed by up to an hour because of strikes by the Transport Workers Union and the Australian Licenced Aircraft Engineers Association.

The unions have held a series of strikes in recent weeks as they fight the airline over pay and work conditions.

Qantas says more than 35,000 passengers have been affected by the unions' industrial action over the past month.
