Saskatchewan to Europe direct routes a possibility?

Sept. 28, 2011, Regina - Regina and Saskatoon airport CEOs are teaming up to try to bring airlines to Saskatchewan that offer direct flights to Europe or the United Kingdom.

Regina Airport Authority president and CEO Jim Hunter is among a group heading to Berlin for a conference to make a Saskatchewan push, along with the Saskatoon airport, Tourism Regina and Enterprise Saskatchewan.

Hunter says the conference is where airports meet airlines to make their business case.

The Saskatchewan group has lined up appointments with 14 different airlines.

Hunter says he doesn't expect any results from the conference any time soon, but part of the mission is to catch the notice of the airlines and "to make these guys aware of Saskatchewan."

Ideally, Hunter would be happy to see summer charter service alternating every other week out of Regina and Saskatoon.
