Ottawa, Ont., Oct. 19, 2007-The Honourable Lawrence Cannon, Minister of Transport, Infrastructure and Communities, today announced the designation of Sunwing Airlines to operate scheduled international air services between Canada and Antigua and Barbuda, and Canada and St. Lucia.

"I am pleased that Sunwing's designations will provide additional airline choices for Canadians travelling between Canada and Antigua and Barbuda, as well as between Canada and St. Lucia," said Minister Cannon. "This increase in scheduled air services is a great example of continued growth in the airline industry."

Under the provisions of Canada's international air transportation policy, all Canadian air carriers may apply to the Minister for designation to operate scheduled international air services. The latest designations were made possible by the bilateral air transport agreements already in place between Canada and Antigua and Barbuda, and Canada and St. Lucia.

The agreements permit each country to designate any number of airlines for the operation of scheduled air services to and from Canada. In addition, there are no limits on the frequency of flights each designated airline is allowed to operate.
