TigerEx SAR exercise comes to Churchill

May 13, 2013, Trenton, Ont. - Churchill residents can expect to see increased Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) aircraft activity from May 13-17 as 424 (Transport and Rescue) Squadron based at 8 Wing, Canadian Forces Base Trenton conducts TigerEx 2013, a search and rescue (SAR) exercise.

During TigerEx, members of the public may see SAR technicians parachuting under orange canopies from CC-130 Hercules aircraft, as well as CH-146 Griffon helicopter crews conducting hoist operations. These activities are part of carefully controlled training scenarios and, unless otherwise stated, do not constitute a response to an emergency.

The exercise will adhere to all applicable Canadian Armed Forces (CAF) regulations to protect the public and CAF members. Should the need arise, the squadron's ability to conduct SAR missions will remain unaffected by the training exercise in Churchill.

The exercise will use simulated casualties and complex rescue scenarios to assist SAR personnel in maintaining a very high level of skill and expertise.
