Jan. 11, 2008, Ottawa- TrueNorth Avionics, Inc., has announced its executive-class Simphone¯ (pronounced ‘symphony’) airborne telecommunications system can now link to emergency health monitoring services for airborne passengers and crew via the Tempus system from Remote Diagnostic Technologies LTD (RDT).
According to Christian Hannan, RDT’s UK-based Operations Manager, the Simphone¯ system performed well in all tests. “Since the Tempus device enables people to send their vital signs data to ground-based doctors for fast diagnosis and treatment support, it is essential to secure a quick and easy connection. Our recent tests with TrueNorth’s Simphone¯ system confirm that it enables our customers to do just that,” Hannan said. “The testing could not have gone better, and RDT customers can be reassured they will not need to have their Tempus units re-commissioned when switching from MagnaStar® phones to this system,” Hannan concluded.
“We’re gratified that RDT, with its outstanding reputation for quality, was so impressed with the Simphone¯ system and its ability to send and receive lifesaving emergency data,” said Mark van Berkel, TrueNorth’s president. “And while most people will continue to use Simphone¯ for routine communications, we’re glad to be able to also serve as the link for this important service to our customers.”
Simphone¯’s one-box airborne telecommunications solution includes an RS-232 data port that matches the data transfer rate of the Tempus medical device. In addition, it provides two analog ports that can be used for voice and/or Inmarsat data. The system also has a built-in Wi-Fi and Ethernet router that can be used to direct traffic via Inmarsat datalink.
Usage requirements include the Tempus hardware, which is installed aboard the aircraft, and a subscription to 24-hour emergency medical response services. The new medical service is available now through RDT.
