Nov. 1, 2007, Calgary,Alta. – WestJet and Edmonton Airports today launched flow-through check-in at Edmonton International Airport. With flow-through check-in, guests keep their baggage with them after it is tagged and then they place it on a belt themselves. Guests move forward through the check-in counters then straight through to the baggage belt, creating less congestion than the traditional counter set-up.

"Edmonton International Airport is Canada's fastest-growing airport and we are pleased to have partnered with WestJet to create an innovative and efficient check-in area," said Reg Milley, CEO Edmonton Airports. "WestJet's new $2.6-million flow-through check-in is a prime example of using new technology to optimize space and provide an improved passenger experience."

"WestJet is thrilled to add Edmonton as our fourth destination to offer flow-through check-in for our guests," said Mike Hafichuk, WestJet Director of Airports Planning. "We strive to offer our guests a friendly, efficient and stress-free experience from time of booking to final destination, and flow-through check-in is another option on WestJet's growing list of innovative check-in choices."

WestJet now offers guests the option of either checking in online through web check-in, on their PDA (personal digital assistant) using mobile check-in, at a self serve check-in kiosk at the airport, or by using a traditional counter or flow-through check-in. WestJet was also the first airline in North America to launch the electronic boarding pass which is accepted at all 26 WestJet Canadian destinations.
