Construction has begun on a new $131-million, 15,000-square-metre facility that will house the 2 Air Expeditionary Wing at Canadian Forces Base Bagotville, in Quebec.

According to a National Defence news release, the facility will accommodate training areas, classrooms, administrative spaces, and workshops to support the Wing, which comprises 300 personnel.

The unit was created in 2007 to provide operational and training equipment in support of RCAF deployments overseas.

“By investing $131 million to build this new facility in Bagotville, we will sustain approximately 600 jobs during construction – and provide Canadian Armed Forces members with the modern infrastructure that they deserve,” said Minister of National Defence Bill Blair. “This new facility will improve operations for 2 Air Expeditionary Wing personnel and better meet their needs, contributing to the safety and security of all Canadians.”

When completed, the facility will meet LEED Silver standards, incorporating energy-efficient lighting and HVAC systems and rainwater capture technology.
