Jan. 14, 2008, Toronto – In response to a recent story on airport
security, the GTAA issues the following comments:
– Security is a top priority for the GTAA as an organization. We work
proactively with our partners at Transport Canada, CATSA and Peel
Regional Police to ensure the safety and security of all employees and
passengers at the airport in the ever changing environment of aviation
security.
– The GTAA is a leader in airport security, evidenced by the use of a
state of the art biometrics system used to screen employees accessing
secure areas of the terminal buildings.
– All employees working at Toronto Pearson are subject to background
checks by Transport Canada. All persons accessing the secure side of
the airport have been subject to backgrounds checks and the biometrics
scanning, or are under physical escort by screened employees.
The GTAA is the non-share company that operates Toronto Pearson. All
revenue generated by the GTAA is reinvested back into the airport. In 2006, 31
million passengers travelled through Toronto Pearson.
