De Havilland Aircraft of Canada on June 19 at the Paris International Air Show introduced the DHC-6 Twin Otter Classic 300-G, which at the time had garnered purchase agreements and letters of intent totalling 45 aircraft. This includes a deal with Jetcraft Commercial which signed a purchase Agreement for 10 Classic 300-G aircraft to serve as its launch customer.

“For over 50 years, the DHC-6 Twin Otter has stood alone as the most reliable and versatile aircraft in its class,” said Brian Chafe, CEO of De Havilland Canada. “After extensive consultation with our customers, we are poised and proud to take this iconic aircraft to new heights with the new DHC-6 Twin Otter Classic 300-G.”

The Classic 300-G is described by De Havilland Canada as the fifth generation of the Twin Otter aircraft, joining the current Series 400. The company says work on the Classic 300-G will create 80 and 91 permanent production jobs in Calgary, Alberta and Victoria, British Columbia, respectively.

“With the same rugged airframe, propelled by Pratt & Whitney technology, the lighter weight Classic 300-G will deliver increased payload range and decreased operating costs for our customers,” said Chafe. “Along with an all-new cabin interior and flight deck featuring the Garmin G1000 NXi fully integrated avionics suite, De Havilland Canada is once again driving the utility transport aircraft market forward.”

In addition to its new cabin interior and G1000 NXi flight deck, the Twin Otter Classic 300-G’s 400-500 lb basic weight reduction means more payload and/or longer range capability.

“The G1000 NXi will bring wireless cockpit connectivity, enhanced situational awareness, visual approach capability, and our fully integrated GFC™ 700 autopilot with envelope protection to the Classic 300-G aircraft,” said Carl Wolf, Garmin Vice President of Aviation Sales and Marketing, De Havilland Canada.

Jetcraft Commercial is the commercial aircraft division of global aviation trading firm Jetcraft, supporting airlines and operators with buying, selling, leasing, marketing and financing aircraft.

“We believe that the DHC-6 Twin Otter Classic 300-G represents the best in-class commuter aircraft solution,” said Raphael Haddad, President of Jetcraft Commercial. “This versatility enables the aircraft to operate into areas where regional aircraft cannot go and provide air connectivity there.

“Our boots-on-the-ground structure enables us to take on numerous aircraft with confidence because we know where demand lives, and where best to place them,” said Haddad. “We are thrilled to be working alongside De Havilland Canada as it brings this new, innovative product to market.”
