People wearing jackets representing various countries are lining up, snapping pictures with their flags and saying goodbye to the host city.

About 58,000 travellers will be passing through when arrivals are included, but Paul Levy, the airport's vice-president of planning for the Olympics and Paralympics, says solid plans are in place to manage the crowds.

For example, people from the athletes villages in Vancouver and Whistler can check in their baggage 24 hours before departure.

A remote terminal has also been erected as an extra check-in and processing area for them.
