Austrian Airlines says “no” to the CSeries, rival Embraer capitalizes

March 12, 2015, Montreal - Deutsche Lufthansa AG’s Austrian subsidiary has chosen Embraer SA’s E195 jet over rival Bombardier Inc.’s C Series, the latest setback in the Canadian company’s efforts to generate crucial sales for the new aircraft.

Lufthansa chief executive officer Carsten Spohr said on Thursday that the Austrian unit will purchase 17 Embraer 195 models to replace its aging Fokker aircraft. That means Austrian Airlines no longer requires the C Series, Lufthansa said.

The decision comes after last week’s statement by Qatar Airways Ltd.’s CEO Akbar Al Baker that the C Series is no longer in consideration after years of mulling its suitability for fleet renewal. Qatar has opted instead for Airbus Group NV’s A319neo. | READ MORE
