Hawkair co-hosts emergency response exercise

July 16, 2013, Terrace, B.C. - Hawkair in conjunction with the Northwest Regional Airport co-hosted a live emergency response exercise today at the Terrace-Kitimat Airport. The exercise simulated the emergency response for an aircraft crash on the airfield providing everyone involved a realistic experience.

More than 60 participants including Hawkair's management and staff, critical incident responders, airport staff, business partners and volunteers participated in the exercise.

Christine Leclerc, an exercise organizer from Hawkair stated, "How you respond in a crisis depends on preparation and training. To have an effective emergency response, all incident responders have to be able to work closely together and participating in a mock exercise like today allows us to strengthen these relationships so we can achieve our goal of performing to the highest safety standards." After the exercise concluded, the Hawkair team and other participants assessed the response to identify strengths and areas for improvement.

"The coordinated exercising of our emergency response plan is an integral part of our safety management system, it tests the robustness of our emergency response in trying life-like scenarios and underpins our commitment to the safety of our passengers and staff." said Jay Dilley, president Hawkair.  "I'm very proud of our entire team's efforts in staging this mock accident and their professional response during the simulation."
