A police spokeswoman says information from the public helped police identify a 15-year-old boy from Sydney River, who admitted to the offences.

Desiree Vassallo says he acted alone and will be referred to the Nova Scotia Restorative Justice Program.

Police were notified by Nav Canada of three separate incidents in which a green laser was pointed at aircraft.

They involved Air Canada flights in January and earlier this month, as well as a helicopter leaving the Cape Breton Regional Hospital on March 19.

Transport Canada says aiming a bright light source into the cockpit of an aircraft is a federal offence that carries a maximum fine of $100,000 under the Aeronautics Act, imprisonment of up to five years, or both.
