Fatal helicopter crash in Whitchurch-Stouffville
A pilot who flew for Essential Helicopters is dead after his helicopter crashed in a rural area of Whitchurch-Stouffville, Ont., on Tuesday afternoon. A report on the incident by CP24 News explains Whitchurch-Stouffville Fire was called at 2 p.m. Tuesday after a helicopter had lost contact with Buttonville Airport in Markham.

Fire Chief Richard Renaud told CP24 they located the helicopter in a field north of Preston Lake, south of St. John’s Sideroad, at 2:55 p.m. York Regional Police where then called to the scene to help.
The pilot was pronounced dead at the scene, according to CP24, and had been ejected from the wreckage. He was the sole occupant of the aircraft when it crashed, according to a report by The Star.
The Transportation Safety Board of Canada (TSB) deployed a team of investigators from its Richmond Hill location to the crash site and will continue its work today to determine the cause. A TSB spokesperson indicated to The Star that aircraft was a Robinson R44 helicopter.
Essential Helicopters of North Bay, which owned the heliciopter, released a statement about the crash, published by CTV News: “It’s been confirmed one of our aircraft and one of our senior pilots were involved in a crash. And we’re working with the Transportation Safety Board and Transport Canada at this time.”
